John Senhauser Q & A

Where do you find design inspiration?

I find inspiration from widely varied and numerous sources including landscape or place, graphic design, furniture, surfaces or materiality, habits and habitation, space and light.

How do you approach the design process?

For me, the process is one of questioning; a rigorous investigation of both possibilities and constraints tempered by a sense of suitability and appropriateness derived from constant editing.

What makes your aesthetic stand out amongst other designers?

Our firm has a genuine understanding of the fundamentals of balance, scale, rhythm, proportion, order and craft. We apply these traits to all our work, regardless of style, because they remain timeless.

What is the greatest value you provide to your clients?

The first rule of sustainability is a durable design that will last many years into the future, much like the quality and durability of the SubZero/Wolf appliances we use. Quality design is not a novelty and only gets better with age.
