About Karen Williams
Passionate about design, cooking and entertaining, Karen Williams is a nationally recognized award-winning creator of highly custom kitchens and interior spaces for discerning clients in the New York area, as well as nationally and internationally. Williams, an allied ASID member, studied interior design at New York’s Fashion Institute of Technology, and is now a principal of St. Charles. A member of the Institute for Classical Art & Architecture, Karen has participated in four renowned Kips Bay Decorator Showhouses.
Her projects regularly appear in national magazines, such as Traditional Home, Kitchen Trends and Beautiful Kitchens + Baths. She regularly travels the globe, searching out the latest trends and resources, and attending cooking classes. She has studied at the Escoffier and at La Cornue in Paris, and attended demonstrations with Charlie Trotter in Chicago. Closer to home, she has taken classes with Jean Georges’ pastry chef Johnny Iuzzini and the Four Seasons Chefs de Cuisine Pecko Zantilaveevan and Larry Finn.

Where do you find design inspiration?
I find my best design inspirations through architecture and travel. I feel the Europe is the design capital of the world, and the historical architecture that you can see there reminds me that you can be inspired to create anything – Beauty and Structure have no boundaries!
How do you approach the design process?
I start with nothing – no budget, no constraints; a blank canvas. I make sure each project is fitting to the location, the style and architecture of the home. What works in a contemporary Manhattan Loft probably won’t work well in a Rustic Country Home
What makes your aesthetic stand out amongst other designers?
I am able to create beautifully designed pieces that are highly functional and user friendly.
What is the greatest value you provide to your clients?
I work closely with my clients to produce the best possible design for them. No two clients are the same, and therefore no two jobs are the same. People appreciate the specialized end result they get when working with me.
