Beachfront Escape

Beyond the Kitchen Award KDC 2017-18

Sub-Zero and Wolf appliances provided the necessary integration features for this small-space kitchen, without overpowering the surrounding living areas. The integrated refrigerator/freezer blends seamlessly into the cabinetry, while the cool stainless-steel Wolf dual fuel range complements the neutral color palette. It is flanked by spice storage compartments for added cooking convenience. The island delineates the kitchen from the living areas and provides a casual dining spot for two. The adjacent dining area, with a cozy bench and chairs, provides space for larger gatherings. The open plan feels comfortable and relaxed, connected in an elegant and convenient way.

In color and materiality, Zanghi produced an elegant yet tranquil space that doesn’t feel overly “beachy.” Avoiding the usual trap of seashells and aquamarine decor, muted neutral shades are layered with unpretentious textures, grounding the space in its seaside locale. Airy whites, sandy taupes, and driftwood hues flow through the sun-washed room.

The kitchen and living areas have an unobtrusive coastal style, with built-in shelving to display mementos. Just like the main house, the guesthouse is an oasis of comfortable beachfront living.
