      Q&A with Laura Bebchik

Where do you find design inspiration?
Our architectural background, we are both graduate architects from the School of Architecture of Buenos Aires, is the basis of our work. Having this background will help us understand the deep complexities of the kitchen spaces. Understanding function, ergonometric and nature of materials comes way before any consideration is made regarding style, atmosphere and "looks". European design has always been our source of inspiration when it comes to defining our style.

How do you approach the design process?
Again, our architectural background and more specifically the "idea of space", helps us as a guidance in our design process. We need to have a thorough understanding of the space as whole, before we start designing. Sketching freehand and doodling possible functional arrangements is the basis of our design process. We can’t avoid getting involved in how the 3rd dimension will be part of the design. Kitchen design is not only about covering walls with cabinets. We need to see our concepts create a space and not only a utilitarian sequence of boxes.

What makes your aesthetic stand out amongst other designers?
We try to always maintain the amount of materials added in the space, to a minimum. Two or three materials are enough to make a space elegant and distinct. Straight lines, long runs and never curves are some of the rules we have when we design a kitchen space.

What is the greatest value you provide to your clients?
In these times of overexposure to information, our value is to synthesize the myriad of ideas a client comes with, in a meeting. More and more we see clients with comments like "we are confused we don’t know what to do"… Screening the abundance of information and guiding the client through the selection of materials, appliances and organizing their space is our most important value.
