Gary Player Estates Residence

Regional Award Winner KDC 2010-12

"Accommodating a client who went to culinary school and loves cooking required us to ensure functionality was on par with the overall beauty of the kitchen all the while achieving the LEED for Homes Silver rating. How our clients would use the kitchen guided our design and how key elements were placed within the area, ensuring it functioned like a professional kitchen."

"A few of the highlights include high-function/high-use kitchen appliances by Sub-Zero, Wolf, and Cove (and DCS outdoor grill); plumbing fixtures that were selected for their clean, sleek look, water efficiency, and functional nature; and custom designed and built cabinetry. Adding a custom-built storage cabinet, raising the height of wall cabinets, and increasing the size of the island enabled us to preserve a wall of windows and keep abundant natural light throughout the space. We also added a large overhead fixture, three pendants over the island, and three wall sconces on arms above key workspaces, which was an important consideration. To achieve the LEED for Homes Silver rating, we included such green features as low-VOC interior paints and finishes, solar thermal water heating, solar shading, low-e clad windows, Energy Star appliances, and native plant and wildlife habitat. The kitchen is integrated into an open floor plan that maintains visibility through the home to mountain views and includes interior features of rustic oak floors and interior doors stained to a warm gray, stained T&G ceilings paired with heavy timber framing, natural stone and wood countertops, and natural stone and ceramic tiles."
