Blending Styles in a Historic Colonial Kitchen
Knowing the ultra-modern style of a young couple’s city apartment wouldn’t suit the 1910-Colonial home, designer Heidi Piron suggested a more transitional approach for this kitchen remodel, drawing inspiration from contemporary luxury European kitchens. By reimagining the home’s layout and expertly blending traditional and contemporary elements, the resulting kitchen beautifully marries the historic character of the sprawling stone home with the modern tastes of the homeowners, creating a space that is both functional and elegant.
MIXING CABINET STYLES
Sleek eucalyptus and decorated inky blue cabinetry bridge modern and traditional styles. A crown with brass trim above the cabinetry and honed Venato quartzite countertops—featuring sage and taupe hues with inky blue veining—pulls the two distinct cabinetry styles together. This transitional blend respects the home's historic charm while introducing contemporary elegance.
FUNCTIONAL LAYOUT
To enhance workflow, the design features a wall with Sub-Zero and Wolf appliances conveniently placed. The remodel also demolished a wall between the kitchen and sunroom, offering the reimagined living spaces an open, airy feel and enhanced sightlines.
GLASS HOOD OFFERS ELEGANT FOCAL POINT
A custom-designed reeded glass range hood with antiqued brass bands adds depth and texture, serving as a stunning focal point of the kitchen while softly reflecting of other elements in the room. To maintain sightlines and preserve the hoods prominence, light fixtures hang over the sink wall rather than the island.
MIXING FORM AND FUNCTION
Desiring a functional kitchen first and foremost, the homeowners selected Sub-Zero and Wolf appliances for their state-of-the-art performance. Organized in efficient work zones and hidden behind custom cabinetry panels in the case of the Sub-Zero Refrigeration ensures the appliances preserves the kitchen’s elegant look while maintaining optimal functionality.
