2nd Place Contemporary Kitchen Award Winner 2019-2021
The home was to be a refuge for a family of six and generations to come. It had to be warm and inviting, while maintaining a balance between raw, industrial materials and considered, delicate detailing. To achieve this goal, designer John Bornas used a limited material palette that he layered to create a sense of hierarchy in the spaces. Varying the scale and detailing throughout the house creates different feelings in different places. The home has a deliberate absence of adornment in the architecture.

Sub-Zero and Wolf products were an obvious choice for this family that cooks. Their kitchen is the heart of their home. The appliances allowed them to create an environment that was minimal and refined, but packed the punch of a commercial kitchen. The simple, pared-back aesthetic was important, but just as important as performance. It helped achieve a design solution that aged timelessly for this young family.
