Residence in Sicily
FINALIST, 2022-2023 KITCHEN DESIGN CONTEST
Modern Revamp for a Centuries-Old Sicilian Kitchen
In a 17th-century historic home, a young family sought to create a kitchen that blends contemporary style with Sicilian tradition. Their vision was to honor the genius loci—the spirit of the place—while embracing the modern needs and tastes of the present. This kitchen renovation beautifully marries the historic character of the home with contemporary amenities, creating a space that is elegantly eclectic and efficient.
CELEBRATING GENIUS LOCI
The kitchen redesign respects the true spirit of the place, preserving its unique character while embracing contemporary elements. Traditional Sicilian materials and colors mix harmoniously with modern appliances and an adapted layout.
SEQUENTIAL ROOM DESIGN
The kitchen is a sequence of rooms—pantry, main kitchen, and wine storage—that each serve a distinct function, echoing the kitchens of yesteryear while creating a dynamic and functional flow.
TRADITIONAL CRAFTSMANSHIP
Collaboration with local artisans ensured that the remodel reflected the craftsmanship of the home, respecting the integrity of the original lava stone masonry.
SUB-ZERO AND WOLF AS FOCAL POINTS
Selected to contrast traditional elements, Sub-Zero and Wolf appliances enhance the kitchen’s eclectic style with their modern and industrial look. Their stainless-steel elements complement the kitchen’s finishes and color palette beautifully, showcasing their functionality and design.
